Where

Crowne Plaza Melbourne is in a great riverfront location in the heart of Melbourne. Overlooking the action-packed Yarra River, it is located at 1-5 Spencer Street which is within easy walking distance of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, city centre, Docklands, Marvel Stadium, Southern Cross Station, DFO and the Melbourne Casino and Southbank. It is also within the free tram zone and is 25 minutes to Tullamarine Airport.

The Back Story

Following a 12-month refurbishment program, the revamped Crown Plaza Melbourne has a great feel and look about it. The year-long transformation that cost $25 million has produced stunning guestrooms and suites where it is easy to relax and soak up those city, South Wharf or Yarra River views. The renovation is the first step in a new chapter for the hotel with the lobby, public areas, pool and gym to be renovated next year.

The Rooms

The 402 guest rooms including eight suites all have a new look with stylish bathrooms, stand-alone showers, premium beds, designer furnishings and striking artwork. Our spacious city luxury suite has a separate lounge room with beautiful views over the Yarra and beyond. There’s a comfortable couch and excellent work station with chic décor in soft subtle colours of neutral tones. It is hard to leave the king-size bed in the adjoining bedroom which also boasts sweeping city views. There’s a walk-in wardrobe and minibar full of treats. The large bathroom has a deep bath that is perfect for relaxing in after a busy day and there’s a walk-in shower with quality bathroom amenities. In some rooms you can see the river while you are in the shower.

Dining

The ground floor Clarendon St Grill is great for breakfast- buffet and a la carte is available and there’s an impressive a la carte menu for dinner. The restaurant overlooks the Yarra River and Clarendon Street. We were impressed with the breakfast menu and service was friendly and efficient. Our eggs and avocado arrived cooked to perfection.
The Lobby Bar is great for a drink after work or pre-dinner with a wide selection of local and imported beers, wines and spirits, espresso coffee and an extensive menu. It is open daily and serves lunch and snacks.

What we loved

The spacious suites are stylish, and you immediately feel right at home whether your stay is for work or leisure. The design is functional yet contemporary and those muted tones put you in relax mode the minute you step through the door.

Culinary Volunteering

Crown Plaza head chef, Warren Finger and his culinary team have been volunteering in the FareShare kitchen each fortnight and will continue to do so as part of the hotel’s commitment to FareShare and the Feed Melbourne Appeal.
