Serious about Tea – The Langham Melbourne

Fancy a seriously good cup of tea – then head to Aria Bar and Lounge at The Langham, Melbourne.

Keep an eye out for waitstaff wearing a distinctive pair of Wedgwood cufflinks or a Wedgwood cameo brooch.

These adornments show that the wearer has passed an exacting exam on the art of making tea following an intensive eight hour training course conducted by Wedgwood.

The training includes theory, tea tastings and service as well as a written exam where only a grade of 90% or more earns a pass mark.

From traditional black teas to caffeine free herbal tisanes such as chamomile, lemon and ginger, Aria’s team is well versed in advising guests about tea selection.

They explain to tea lovers all tea is loose leaf and weighed before brewing and to avoid the pot of tea becoming bitter, tea leaves are removed just moments before being served.

The Langham Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood is a treat with savoury sandwiches, delicious scones and decadent cakes.

A selection of savoury sandwiches such as smoked salmon, cucumber and horseradish crème fraiche, free range ham with tomato chutney and English cheddar, avocado, watercress, micro basil and heirloom tomato salad and free range chicken with chives and lemon thyme feature.

There are also miniature salted caramel and macadamia tarts, passionfruit and mango macarons, scones and fresh cream and jam and strawberry choux pastry with citrus cream accompany delicate finger sandwiches  served on a three tiered tea stand.

The tea stand’s top tier features the aforementioned dainty and delicate pastries as well as a Valrhona Manjari chocolate sphere, hazelnut and sable biscuit, a white chocolate mousse with raspberry and pistachio and a mushroom shaped meringue with Chantilly cream.

Tea is served in tailor-made “”Langham Rose” Wedgwood china .

The Langham Afternoon Tea is served Monday until Friday from 10.30am – 4.30pm with Wedgwood tea, Langham blend tea and Espresso coffee from $55.00 per person including a glass of sparkling wine.
