Relax and rejuvenate at Songbirds Rainforest Retreat
Whip birds call each other at Songbirds Rainforest Retreat and I count four different butterflies fluttering around my deck. A pair of king parrots sit in a tree nearby, oblivious to my presence.
Songbirds Rainforest Retreat is nestled in the hinterland of Queensland on Tamborine Mountain, the first mountain inland from the Gold Coast and a mere hour drive south of Brisbane.
Tamborine is home to Queensland’s oldest national park and the third oldest in the world. It is a getaway for those that want to relax and those that want a little more than flopping and dropping.
Set on 23 hectares, the retreat is tranquil and private. There are six luxurious and spacious villas, including an executive villa, sleeping four adults. Each is tastefully appointed and includes a double spa bath, lounge area with a gas ember fire for those cooler nights and a large outdoor deck. The only sound you hear will be the birds.
The restaurant is open to private bookings of 20+ people. Breakfast baskets are provided in your villa and a delight is a grazing platter that can be delivered to you. Containing a fine range of locally sourced foods, they are perfect while watching the in-room Netflix, taking a peaceful spa or simply enjoying the sounds and sights of the rainforest flora and fauna from your villa.
The superb setting of Songbirds has seen it emerge as a popular wedding and events venue with the restaurant able to seat up to 100 people and additional accommodation close by.
Within a short drive, I have many options if I can pry myself away. There are walks to waterfalls, shopping, markets, distilleries, cheese factories, fudge and chocolate shops and an array of restaurants and cafes that beckon. Add to the list lookouts with views over the Scenic Rim and Border Ranges and you have a wonderful getting-away-from-it-all short break so close to the Gold Coast and Brisbane.
