Xmas gift guide – baubles, watches and more
We have compiled a list of a couple of great gift ideas that could be just the thing for Christmas, or even just to celebrate the end of 2020. We have some outstanding jewellery from Jan Logan, the newest from Apple Watch, a very swanky Swiss Army Knife from Victorinox and a travel backpack that will suit the person that travels with a laptop and a tablet. We hope you like the selection.
Jan Logan Kandinsky Collection
The new Jan Logan Kandinsky Collection is inspired by the painter, Wassily Kandinksy, who was a pioneer of abstract art. Kandinsky theorised that ‘music is the ultimate teacher’, and a colour such as yellow, a typically terrestrial colour, represented a middle C, whilst a blue is a celestial colour invoking a deep calm.
Kandinsky also explored the relationships of geometric figures claiming that the circle is the most peaceful shape and represents the human soul, whilst a line is the product of a force which has been applied in a given direction.
What we were inspired by was the visual communication of combining various shapes and colours using the different forms of fine jewellery including metals, gems and wondrous pearls. These attitudes, and Kandinsky’s work, were the platform for creating the collection, often starting with a single idea, a single gem or a blank piece of paper. The design team have been stimulated in using this inspiration to create a concentric mix of warmth, clarity and optimism throughout the range.
Following on from this our production team, including our jewellers, setters and polishers have taken great pride in interpreting the designs and making pieces of the highest quality and workmanship. Similarly, our buying team have ensured that all of our materials are ethically sourced and where possible, our suppliers are members of the Responsible Jewellery Council.
We also celebrate 20 years of working with up and coming Australian actors that began with Rose Byrne. This year we are equally excited about collaborating with the wonderful Sophie Wilde whom we photographed in the hinterland of northern New South Wales. Sophie is a delightful spirit and we look forward to observing the development of her many natural talents.
Highlight pieces we love:
Apple Watch Series 6
We here at The Finer Thing in Travel love the watch with the silver stainless steel case with leather link. The stainless steel case is durable and polished to a shiny, mirror-like finish. The Leather Link is made from handcrafted Roux Granada leather with no clasps or buckles, and has embedded magnets for a secure and adjustable fit.
Like other Series 6 watches, this watch has plenty of new features. As mentioned above it can measure your blood oxygen. It can track your heart rate during every workout and can track sleep. And, along with Apple Watch SW and Apple Watch Series 3, it has a water-resistant rating of 50 metres. This means that they may be used for shallow-water activities like swimming in a pool or the ocean. However, they should not be used for scuba diving or waterskiing, or other activities involving high-velocity water or submersion below a shallow depth.
Apple Watch Nike and Apple Watch Hermès
We are also partial to the Apple Watch Nike which now comes with new colours for the Nike Sport Band and Nike Sport Loop, and a new Nike Compact watch face allows for multiple Nike Run Club complications. And we wouldn’t say no to the Apple Watch Hermès offers stainless steel cases in silver or space black paired with Single or Double Tour styles in an assortment of vibrant new colours. The fall collection also unveils the Hermès Attelage Single Tour and slimmer Attelage Double Tour bands, which feature a refined connection to the case that reflects the brand’s equestrian heritage, and a new Hermès Circulaire watch face that offers increased options for complications. The perfect Christmas gift methinks!
Brand new in Australia this December is Family Setup on Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Series 4 and later. This brings the communication, health, fitness, and safety features of Apple Watch to kids and older family members of the household who do not have an iPhone. For the first time, Apple Watch can be set up through a parent’s iPhone, so kids can connect with family and friends through phone calls and Messages, stay motivated with personalised Activity goals, and express their creativity through custom Memoji.
