When I think of Rocky Mountaineer, I think of Canada. I think of the gobsmackingly glorious scenery along the routes the Rocky Mountaineer takes as it swirls and twists and shines on its various journeys. But now America is introduced to the Rocky action. The very first Rocky Mountaineer itinerary in America is now a reality.

August 15, 2021, saw the inaugural trip of the Rocky Mountaineer in the USA. The first shiny carriages of the Rockies to the Red Rocks route set off from Denver, Colorado. This is the preview season of the route, which runs from Denver to Moab, Utah, along with an overnight stop in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

A seven month season is planned for 2022, with this two-day rail journey already proving to be extremely popular. It delivers all the premium elements the Rocky Mountaineer is known for, with glass-dome carriages, amazing cuisine, onboard storytelling and impeccable onboard service.

As you would expect of Colorado and Utah, the route also features stunning landscapes. As it runs between Denver and Glenwood Springs, the train travels alongside the Colorado River and through a series of canyons with steep rugged rock walls. From Glenwood Springs to Moab, the scenery changes to mountain views, desert cliffs and rock formations.

The Silver Service on the Rocky Mountaineer

The inaugural US route is just one step in Rocky Mountaineer’s long-term vision of expanding its journeys to diverse destinations. It is a monumental addition to the three rail routes in Western Canada that run between Vancouver and the towns of Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper in the Canadian Rockies.

“This new Rockies to the Red Rocks route is a celebration that has been several years in the making as we continuously
seek unique locations with incredible scenery and iconic destinations that are best experienced by train,” said Peter
Armstrong, Founder and Interim CEO of Rocky Mountaineer. “We look forward to welcoming guests for a train journey
that delivers the incredible experience and award-winning service that Rocky Mountaineer is well known for while they
enjoy the epic scenery, flavours and hospitality of the Southwest United States.”
