Review: Come alive at the Greatest Showman Circus Spectacular
COME ALIVE! The Greatest Showman Circus Spectacular
Roll up! Roll up! The Circus is here and it is indeed spectacular!
The curtain has risen on COME ALIVE! The Greatest Showman Circus Spectacular – the first tour outside London.
Following a sell-out run in the UK, the immersive live experience had its Australian debut in Sydney on 26 May before touring nationally.
A national tour under the big top
The production opened under a purpose-built Hippodrome at the Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park, transforming the space into a vibrant, circus-style world. From there, it will travel to Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne. The pre-show is immersive and will totally get you in the mood for the showstopping visual extravagazna you are about to see.
Audiences can expect a bold reimagining of the much-loved soundtrack from The Greatest Showman, with songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul including This Is Me, Rewrite the Stars and A Million Dreams performed live in an intimate, high-energy setting. These songs are the highlight, but that is to be expected as they are known around the world from the movie.
Leading the cast
At the heart of the production are rising Australian stars Des Flanagan and Ruby Clark, leading an all-Australian cast of performers alongside world-class circus artists.
Flanagan is known to theatre audiences for standout roles in Moulin Rouge! The Musical Australia and CATS, earning a TimeOut Melbourne nomination for Best Performance in a Musical. His credits also span The Producers, West Side Story on Sydney Harbour and screen appearances including Neighbours.
Clark brings a diverse performance background across theatre, music and film, with credits including The Lord of the Rings, Once, Rent and Grease. An accomplished violinist and accredited stunt performer, she adds a dynamic edge to the production.
A full ensemble of talent
Joining them is a vibrant ensemble cast: Olivia Carniato, Jade Delmiguez – who was outstanding as Sapphire the Fortune Teller – Harrison Riley, Charly Williams, Sienna Walsgott, Maisie Axton, Ally Bircher, Steve Costi, Diego Garcia Rendon, Samantha Goldie, Owen Jones, Liam Papanicolau and Melana Searles.
Together, they bring to life a world of acrobatics, aerial feats and theatrical storytelling inspired by the spirit of The Greatest Showman.
An immersive spectacle
More than a stage show, COME ALIVE! is designed as a fully immersive experience. Audiences are drawn into the action, surrounded by gravity-defying performances and the soaring music that made the film a global phenomenon.
Des Flanagan says, “These songs mean so much to people, and experiencing them live in such an immersive setting will be incredibly special.”
Ruby Clark adds, “The level of talent involved is extraordinary – audiences are in for something truly spectacular.”
The is a vibrant, feel-good night Sydney audiences will love.
A world-class creative team
The production is helmed by Drama Desk Award-winning Creative Director Simon Hammerstein, supported by an internationally acclaimed team including Music Producer Matthew Brind, choreographers Jerry Reeve and Lukas McFarlane, and Emmy Award-nominated Lighting Designer Adam Bassett.
