Logan Wines, NSW
The Winery
Peter Logan started Logan Wines with his late father Mal in 1997. Located in Mudgee, in the NSW Central Ranges, the winery has gone from strength to strength and now has vines growing in Orange. Logan produces the premium sparkling Vintage ‘M’ Cuvée, the quirky and popular Weemala range, the affordable quality of Apple Tree Flat and the Ridge of Tears, which represents the best of the region.
The Cellar Door
The Logan Tasting Room is perched on a hill with uninterrupted views over the Mudgee vineyard and Apple Tree Flat. The architecturally striking building is all glass and light with a bright and welcoming interior, fitting beautifully in the natural surroundings of mountains, bush and vineyards.
Drop in and taste the full range of Ridge of Tears, Logan, Weemala, Apple Tree Flat and Vintage ‘M’ Cuvée new releases. Enjoy the view with a bottle of wine and a cheese plate, or good coffee and a big slice of freshly baked cake.
The Wines
Logan 2014 ‘Hannah’ Rosé
Winemaker Peter Logan created the Logan ‘Hannah’ Rosé for his wife Hannah, on their wedding day. Hannah loves the Logan 2014 ‘Hannah’ Rosé for its freshness, mixture of red fruits and spice flavours and appetite whetting brininess and crunchy finish that makes you just want a little more. RRP: $22
Logan 2010 Vintage ‘M’ Cuvée
Described by winemaker Peter Logan as “the most complete example of this wine to date,” the 2010 premium sparkling is Logan’s finest yet and shows how much the wine has evolved since the inaugural 1998 vintage. While previous vintages of this wine have been very pleasing the 2010 Logan Vintage ‘M’ Cuvée features much more savoury complex characters, a fuller, creamier mousse and a decidedly longer lasting finish. It has an intriguing aroma of citrus and nuts and bakery yeast autolysis characters. RRP: $35
Logan 2012 Ridge of Tears Shiraz (Mudgee) + Logan 2012 Ridge of Tears Shiraz (Orange)
Ridge of Tears is the name chosen by Peter for Logan’s new range of shiraz; one from Mudgee, the other from Orange. While the two regions are geographically very close they have very different terroir. Both regions produce exceptional shiraz, yet it is stylistically very different.
Each wine features a unique, charismatic sketch of an elderly gentleman’s face, paying homage to Peter’s ancestors and to the metaphorical ageing of the winemaker during the creation of these wines. The story of the Logan ancestors, the wine and the winemaker’s journey wraps around the bottle, revealing itself as you continue to read. RRP: $45
