The annual Ord Valley Muster is fun, fabulous and a great way to experience the Kimberley.
The muster is the perfect excuse to venture there and stay longer. The 18th Ord Valley Muster will be held in Kununurra from May 11 to 20 2018.
Next year’s festival offers a huge array of new and exciting events over the 10-day festival including a rodeo, music, food, dining, art, culture, comedy and unique Kimberley experiences.
Ord Valley Events chairman, Narelle Brook, says the festival brings huge economic benefits to the area and also encourages visitors to explore the Kimberley’s wonderful landscape including dramatic gorges, ancient rock art sites and impressive waterfalls.
The Muster is considered a bucket-list must-attend event that evolves year on year. Nowhere else in the world can black-tie dining under a starry sky, indigenous food, culture and dance, intimate dinners in secret locations, challenging bike ride, art exhibitions, a local talent quest where everyone has a go, rugby matches, a country rodeo and laugh-out-loud comedy night be experienced in a 10-day window.
Last year, the ‘Muster’ attracted 15,000 people who attended a variety of events over 10 days with the Kimberley Moon Experience, the region’s biggest party, attracting 3500 people plus 600 who were dressed in their finest at the sit down black-tie dinner on the banks of the Ord River.
Last year’s Line Up
The impressive line-up of events included a Corroboree under the Stars, gourmet riverside breakfast by Fervor, rodeo, literary lunch, Argyle Diamond Mine Tour, Kimberley Kitchen with Colin Fassnidge and the Kimberley Moon Experience starring Jimmy Barnes, Daryl Braithwaite and the McClymonts on the banks of the Ord River.
Kununurra nurse, Samantha Breen says she looks forward to the event every year.
“It brings a sparkle to the area and everyone gets frocked up for the dressy events – it also showcases Kununurra,People get here and are often surprised – there’s so much that is unique about this region,” she says.
Kimberley Moon Experience
The Kimberley Moon Experience will be held on Saturday 19 May 2018 and has been headlined by Australia’s biggest artists in previous years including Jimmy Barnes, Paul Kelly, Bernard Fanning, Daryl Braithwaite, Guy Sebastian and Eskimo Joe.
The breathtaking ancient landscape of the Kimberley with its magical energy deserves to be listed as a star attraction alongside the top Australian talent who’ll be announced in the coming months. It’s so impressive that visitors are urged to stay and explore nearby attractions including the Mirima National Park, El Questro, Lake Argyle, Purnululu National Park, or take an adventure down the Gibb River Road, a river cruise along the Ord, the life force of the region or a scenic flight in order to really appreciate the vastness and beauty of the world’s last wilderness frontier.
