So we have heard of bath butlers, and pillow butlers, but fire concierges?
The Royalton New York, part of the Morgans Hotel Group Co. has introduced The Fireplace Sachet, with five different wood types to choose from. The property, which incidentally has 55 wood-burning fireplaces in its guest rooms, has developed the Fireplace Sachets in partnership with Brooklyn-based Wood Sommelier Ted Whitehead, aka The Woodman.
The sachets allow guests to customise their in-room fires and just to really make sure guests are happy, a menu of small plates and craft cocktails are available to complement each scent.
The Royalton’s Fireplace Sachets are packaged in fireplace-ready, hand-silk-screened jute sacks, and are placed on top of any existing logs to offer a spectrum of aromas from delicate to distinct. And don’t worry about lighting it yourself, Royalton’s trained Fire Concierges will set it all up and get it going for you.
The five sachets are the Maple Wood, which Chef Vanessa Miller matching the wood with culinary delights such as Maple Glazed Pork Belly Skewers with Radicchio and Sesame, alongside lead bartender – Joshua Brandenburg’s Vermont Fizz – a divine combination of vanilla bean, maple, cream, gin and brandied cherries. The Apple Wood Sachet is soothing with floral notes and is paired with delicious Apple Beignets served with cider caramel and powdered sugar, and a Sfumato – Apple smoked peach-infused Cointreau, peach puree and Prosecco topped with apple smoked peach garnish.
The Oak Wood Sachet is nutty and full-bodied with herbal depth, and is accompanied by Smoked Cheddar Grilled Cheese with Braised Short Rib, pickled red onion and arugula and The Last Tree – a combination of Partida Anejo, Green Chartreuse, Lime, Pine Needles and Agave, while the Pecan Wood Sachet gives off a mild scent that is nutty and spicy, served with Oven-Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Chopped Pecans, Barbecue Sea Salt and fresh thyme alongside Island of Hills – Woodford Reserve, oak-smoked pecan orgeat and Antica Carparo.
Last but not least is the Hickory Wood Sachet, which is often used by grillers for its robust and sweet quality, served with Prosciutto and Ricotta Crostini with hickory smoked cranberries, burnt honey and greens and Joshua’s renowned Hickory Old Fashioned – which features charred hickory-infused bourbon, maple whiskey, Applejack and honey water.
The Royalton is the stylish living room of Manhattan, with the chic lobby featuring a floor-to-ceiling, hand-forged cast bronze fireplace, a twenty-foot cast iron sculptural wall that was formerly a building façade salvaged from France, and hand upholstered leather walls reminiscent of African tribal art.
